Aim ― to determine the possibility of using the cell block in the diagnosis of primary and metastatic carcinomas of the liver, to determine the characteristic cytomorphological features of various histotypes of cancer by the material of the cell block.

Results. Complete material for cytological study of FNAB obtained in 95,2% (n=101) of cases. In 64,8% (n=57) of observations of positive cytological diagnoses of cancer, the expediency of using residual material for the formation of the cell block was noted. The presence of clear architectural features of the tumor in 10,2% of observations were more often observed in the material of the cell block in comparison with the material of traditional сytology.

Key words: cytological diagnosis, liver carcinoma, сell block.
